Green Schools Flag

Our Green Schools Flag Journey

In May 2025 we were delighted to be awarded our first Green Flag for “Litter and Waste”.  Mrs. Meehan worked very hard over a 3 year period with our Green Schools Committee members to make improvements in the area of “Litter and Waste”.

Our goals in this theme were:

  1. To reduce school landfill waste.
  2. To reduce plastic packaging in our lunches.
  3. To increase number of children bringing in zero waste lunches.

Some of the ways we worked to achieve these goals were:

  • Elected Green Schools Committee each year
  • Participation in Climate Action Week annually
  • Participation in the Picker Pals Programme
  • Whole School Litter Picks
  • Waste free lunches
  • Introduction of compost bins
  • Plastic bottle Deposit Return collections in school
  • Bin audits to monitor levels of waste
  • Creation of Junk Art from recycled materials
  • Green Christmas – donation of old toys to charity
  • Uniform Swap Shop

The Green Schools Flag Initiative has made a lasting impact on our school and wider school community.  We will continue to work on further achievements in this area and hope to add more Green Flags to our school in the future.  We are committed to a greener, cleaner future!
